This past weekend we went to the movies. I usually don’t watch these kinds of movies, my vote was for Dory!! However, during the movie the Lord began to show me some things. I saw a new generation of women rising up and taking their place. I saw the misfits and discouraged in their callings and gifts coming forth to realize they’re not crazy but in fact have a purpose. He showed me how we cower because of pressure and try to become what the world wants and in the process forfeiting who we are. Others have intimidated and used our gifts for their own gain and my heart was stirred as I watched women be degraded, silenced, and pushed aside. I’ve been one of them! Silenced by fear and rejection. Pressured to change who I am. Intimidated and used by those whom I loved and respected. Pushed so far into a corner, I lost myself that is until Jesus said enough is enough! Oh ya! Go get em Lord! It’s time we realize who we are, why we are here, and be brave enough to walk it out. I won’t rest until every women knows the value they hold in Jesus. You are not a mistake, stupid, useless, helpless, too far gone, ugly, fat, too old or young. You were created with a purpose! Your past is just that, the past. I know it hurt. Heck, it darn near killed you, but let it serve as a reminder that YOU ARE A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH! You’re still standing! God is for you! Take heart and move forward with courage, power, and a God who never loses!!

Plot Twist

I love watching a good movie or reading a good story. However, I do not like it when there is a serious plot twist and it throws me for a loop. I wasn’t expecting it! Seriously!! Way to change it all up!!

Oh how our lives can be the same way. One day we are good and the next day BAMM it all changes. No matter what the changes are, good or bad, it takes a minute {or longer} to wrap our minds around what is going on. Adjusting to the change may take a little more time as well.

I recall our first months in Texas. Talk about plot twist! I could not for the life of me wrap my mind around living in Texas. I mean, we are here, in Texas, but in my mind everything was California. Writing my address took some time for me to put the correct state. Realizing that my friends and family were not as close as they used to be. Knowing that I would have to make new friends terrified me.

Some plot twist can throw you so far off and if we’re not careful they can destroy us. Like the passing of my dad. Never saw that kind of pain coming; for him or for my family. Some things won’t ever make sense and searching for the why’s will lead us down the road of bitterness. A dark and lonely road filled with shadows and despair. No good dwells there.

I want to be strong. Resilient. Brave. Ready to face what comes unafraid.  Instead, sometimes I run and hide. Cowardly. Full of fear. A damsel in distress who needs rescuing. Through these past years Jesus has reminding me over and over and over again that if I run to him he can take any plot twist and turn into a story that brings hope, restores faith, and encourages others not to give up. Oh sure, I may have to face the big bad wolf or a wicked witch {hopefully not literally} but never alone or without a victory.

With Jesus as the center of my story ensures that my ending will be fruitful, purposeful, and more than I ever dreamed or imagined. I may endure loss but he has promised to restore. So, I’ll take the plot twist knowing that it will ALWAYS be used for my good!

Good afternoon friends!!

Today I want to encourage y’all to fight the good fight of faith!! This life is full of battles that we will have to press through. I often hear the misconception that as Christians all will be well with us; that we will have a perfect, trouble free life. Huh?! No disrespect, but what bible have you been reading?

All through out scripture we see faithful men and women of God who encountered trials and troubles in their life. They too, wondered where God was; does he hear me? See me? Abraham and Sarah were childless for years, Joseph’s family betrayed him and sold him as a slave which caused years of unfair injustice to him, Saul tried to kill David, Job lost everything and all he loved. Those are just to name a few who had to fight to continue to believe that God was faithful and would do what he promised.

Issac was born to Sarah at 90 years old, Joseph became second in command over all of Egypt, David became King and Job received double of all that was lost. You make look today at your situation and say impossible…I say take another look. God is about to revive that which you thought was dead! He’s going to restore you!

What is your battle today? What is it in your life that for the moment has you believing it’s over? Financial loss? Sickness? Family trouble? Do you need hope? Joy? Strength? Encouragement? My friends, there is only one answer and his name is Jesus!! He promised life abundantly to those of us who trust in him. His word says that we are MORE than conquerors! We have victory because of his great love for us. These trials weren’t meant to kill you but to prepare you for an amazing future. Don’t give up now! Keep on pressing through!! Look up!! Believe!! Hope against all odds that Jesus will do all he said he would do!! You my friend are gonna make it and come out with double for your trouble!!!

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.” No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.      Romans 8:35-37

breakthrough, contend, hope, Jesus, Victory

Good afternoon friends!!

This morning during homeschooling I was telling my boys the story of Hannah. If you don’t know who she was I’ll give you a little run down of her life. She was barren {couldn’t have kids} and she was one of two wives. The other wife could have babies and this brought Hannah much pain. I can so relate! Watching others produce and here I sit unable to grow a weed. Well, Hannah went to God and cried out {one of many times} and God finally answered her and she became pregnant and gave birth to Samuel. The part of the story that gripped me was when my 12 old pointed out that after she had her first baby she then had five more children!! What?! She couldn’t have any and then boom she now has six!

Right then and there as I’m telling the story I begin to weep {my poor kids} as I felt the Lord speak deep into my heart…once your breakthrough comes you will no longer go back to the same issue! This breakthrough will cause your current giant to fall never again to harass you nor will you go that way again!! Hallelujah!! Thank you Jesus!! What once was an issue of barrenness for Hannah became an area of continual victory! Whatever you are walking through today keep contending for your miracle, your promise, your breakthrough! When time and destiny kiss your moment will happen and you’ll never be the same again.

Then Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid! Take your stand [be firm and confident and undismayed] and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for those Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see again. Exodus 14:13

Lord I thank you for your word. I thank you that you never cease to find ways to speak to us. We, your children long to be set free from the giants before us. I ask for your supernatural strength to empower us to contend until the breakthrough comes. Give us hope. Help us to believe again. Show us your mercy and grace as we wait on you. In the name of Jesus we pray…Amen!!

issues, Jesus, roller coaster, trouble, trust, Victory

Good afternoon my peeps!!

There are days that I live on the edge of a breakthrough or a breakdown! Can you relate to this roller coaster ride? One day I feel great the very next I feel like I’m going to die. How is it that we can be so extreme? There is no way to avoid issues, people, or struggle so how can we remain stable and steady? Jesus tells us {John 16:33} “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

He tells us “TAKE HEART” to have hope, to be encouraged, be brave, cheer up, and be confident {not in us but in him}!! If he told us this then he must’ve known that there would be times that we would lose heart, hope, courage, and confidence; that there would be trouble.

The last time I went on a roller coaster I had to get in line {a long one} and wait {I did NOT want to go}. Every inch closer my heart would drop and get butterflies because I knew what I was getting myself into. My son {the reason I was in line} wasn’t so sure he wanted to go through with it once he heard the screams. I told him you don’t have to get on {inside I’m screaming…please change your mind}. There is a gate that leads us out if you want to get out. Mom will respect whatever you decide. We didn’t get on after all. Smart kid!!

We have a choice to ride the emotions of our flesh or trust God. God will respect our decision. He waits for us to decide. He stands ready to grab our hands and lead us to safety. He is able to steady and stabilize the flood of emotions that threaten our peace of mind, if we choose to allow him. Well, I choose Jesus! I choose peace! I choose to believe and trust! I choose to not allow my emotions to deceive me one day longer! I stand on the word of God and his perfect track record of victory! Not once has Jesus failed and he won’t start now!!

Take heart my friend…we have Jesus on our side and he ushers us into victory and peace every time!!

finishing strong, pride, Victory

In perfect formation they came around the corner; perfectly suited up shoulder to shoulder and not a step out of pace. I’ve never seen such a beautiful display of pride and humility. I looked and scanned the group of Marines to find his face and as I looked at each one of them they all held such a glory that told a story of absolute victory. The miles they have run, the hills they had to climb, the obstacles they had to get through, the mental and physical exhaustion endured, the pain, the loneliness, all of it was over and now they stand in this place, in front of all who matter the most to them, to receive an honor given to the few, the proud, the Marines. I found his face among the hundreds of young men and I couldn’t have imagined the eyes of my baby shining any brighter. He is a Marine; He did it; He finished!! I imagined the little boy with big dreams who grew to be a young man whose dream was a reality.  As I sat there I remembered many moments just like this before in my life oh sure none of them are of me in uniform but I have been a victor clothed in pride and joy. I have tasted the faithfulness of God who carried me through some of my darkest battles.  I believe we all have at one point in time. Life is full of training grounds and battles that we must pass through and conquer. This life we live is not easy and can be down right cruel but those of us who have Jesus have a hope that sustains us like a letter from a loved one while away from home. We have this expectation of good out of every situation no matter how daunting it may be at the present moment. We can see through the pain and visualize the promise of victory. We are reassured through the word of God that if we don’t lose heart we will receive our reward. A reward that far surpasses the long journey behind us and more enjoyable than we could ever imagine.  We all have a graduation ahead of us if we just stay the course. Just like my son isn’t done with his training neither are you and me. There will always be something more to be learned, to be discovered. Each time we finish we go from one glory to another, from victory to victory. You see this life was never meant to be our comfort zone it was only meant to be a training ground because in going from glory to glory it means we go from one training ground to the other. If you are still alive then it is not over and neither is your purpose!! You may be in a training season that seems pointless or your own war and you’re battle weary and want to give up. Let me tell you what I told my son over and over while he was in boot camp…You got this!! You were created for victory so finish strong!!! God hasn’t brought you here to let go of you now!!! Don’t’ miss your moment to be an example of the sustaining hand of God, don’t let defeat rob you of the pride of victory!! Be strong and courageous for the Lord your God is with you!! The feeling of relief that flooded my heart when I got to touch him and tell him just how proud I was of him. Tears streaming down my face as my heart was bursting with pride and joy. I will never forget this moment of absolute perfection and don’t you miss yours…you’re almost there!!

Blessings,

Em
